How to Brush Your Pet's Teeth

The secret to excellent oral health is a consistent routine. While daily brushing is the gold standard, brushing 2 to 3 times a week is enough to see a marked improvement. A full brushing session takes just 60 seconds (15 seconds per quadrant of the mouth). Note: Tongue-facing surfaces do not need brushing, as they benefit from the natural cleaning effect of the tongue.

To ensure a stress-free experience, introduce teeth cleaning gradually using these steps:

1. Familiarise: Lift your pet’s lips to expose their teeth, reinforcing this handling with lots of praise.

2. Touch: Run your bare finger along their teeth. The back and upper teeth are most prone to plaque and tartar, so focus your attention there.

3. Taste: Place a small amount of the liver-flavoured toothpaste on your finger and allow your pet to lick it off to get used to the taste.

4. Introduce the Brush: Wet the bristles on your pet toothbrush, apply some toothpaste, and allow them to investigate and lick the brush.
